Saint Elmo’s Fire And Saint Anthony’s Fire! The Heat Is On!

Saint Elmo’s Fire:

St. Elmo’s fire is a bright, flickering light that sometimes appears during thunderstorms. The phenomenon is named after St. Erasmus of Formia (Saint Elmo), the patron saint of sailors. St. Elmo’s fire is caused by electrical charges in the atmosphere and can be a warning sign of an impending lightning strike. some sailors have considered the light as a good omen showing that their patron saint (Elmo) was with them.

Saint Erasmus, who was known as Elmo, preached to sailors at sea. One time while out to sea, a storm came up, and he was almost struck by lightning but continued preaching. The sailors said that his prayers protected them from the danger they were in from the lightning storm. The fiery glow on the ship’s masts was a sign of his faith, and the sailors began calling it Saint Elmo’s fire.

Sailors have been fascinated by the phenomenon known as St. Elmo’s fire. This eerie glow, which often appears during thunderstorms, is a form of plasma – electrically charged gas. The cause of St. Elmo’s fire is not completely understood, but it is thought to be caused by electrical activity in the atmosphere.
Some sailors have considered St. Elmo’s fire as bad luck, and it was sometimes thought to be a sign of an oncoming storm. This is because electricity in the air can cause havoc with compass the readings, which can make it difficult to navigate safely.

Saint Anthony’s Fire:

Saint Anthony’s Fire is a disease from the Middle Ages that is caused by a fungus that contaminates rye grain called Ergot. It was named after the Christian saint that the afflicted appealed to for its healing. The symptoms of St. Anthony’s Fire include burning and tingling sensations in the limbs, severe headaches, muscle cramps, and gangrene. The burning sensation associated with it is sometimes called holy fire.

A story from long ago says that a man named Gaston of Valloire had a son that was afflicted with the ailment. It is said that a nearby church had acquired relics of St. Anthony. It has been told that when Gaston’s son touched one of the relics in the church, it miraculously cured him. Gaston was so grateful for his son being cured that he decided to build a monastery in St. Anthony’s honor.

St. Anthony did not have any relation with ergotism, but his name and story were linked to it, and he was embraced by the Order of Hospitallers, who had many cures for this.

Cardinals Appear When Angels Are Near

(History Or Mystery?)

Folklore says that “when cardinals appear, angels are near.” Is it a visitor from heaven? This story has been around for many centuries. It’s often seen as a sign from God. It is said that angels often appear as cardinals. It is popular belief that the cardinals are messengers of God.

This quote has inspired many people to create beautiful works of art, literature, and music. It’s a reminder that even though our loved ones are gone, they are always with us in spirit.

Cardinals have been a source of comfort and joy for people all over the world.

The red cardinal is popular in Christian art. The bird is often used to represent the Holy Spirit.

Cardinals symbolize hope, renewal, and life after death. In many cultures, they are seen as messengers from the afterlife.

If you see a cardinal, take a moment to appreciate the beauty of nature, the cycle of life and the comfort that is saying can bring to you. And if you’re feeling down, remember that there’s always hope on the horizon.

In seeing them, take a moment to remember the special people in your life who have passed away. They are sure to be smiling down on you from heaven above.

They could be a sign from God that He is with you and watching over you. Take comfort in knowing that He is always with you, and use this as a reminder to cherish your time on earth.

No matter what you believe in, there is no denying the beauty and wonder of seeing a cardinal in your yard.

When you see a cardinal, take a moment to remember the loved ones who have passed away. They are always with us, in our hearts and in the beauty of nature.

The cardinal, and birds in general are tied with the blood of Jesus, the cardinal represents the eternal life-giving nature of Jesus. The gospels do not specify a cardinal, but all four of the gospels in the Bible does portray the Holy Spirit as a dove descending from the heavens. Renderings of the holy spirit usually contain two elements, white light or red flames. A white dove represents the purity, peace and light of the Spirit and the red cardinal represents the fire and vitality of the spirit.

I would say that this is a mystery.

“And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” Genesis 1:20

“The birds of the sky nest by the waters; they sing among the branches.” Psalm 104:12

Myrrh Is The Cure!

The Oils Used In The Bible To Wash The Feet Of Jesus Was Thought To Be A Mix Of Myrrh And Spikenard.

I would like to share with you the stories that I have found about Myrrh and Spikenard.

We all know the biblical story of the “woman from the city”, “who lived a sinful life”, and washed the feet of Jesus, drying it with her hair.

Myrrh was used in most perfumes/ointments as a mix to be added with other perfume/essential oils making it last longer.  It acts as a preservative.

Its health benefits include:

  • antiseptic
  • respiratory ailments
  • digestive problems
  • hay fever
  • antifungal
  • stimulant
  • mouth and gum disease
  • anti-inflammatory
  • anti – spasmodic
  • immune system health
  • and more.

It was also used back then for embalming purposes.  Myrrh has been used for over five thousand years, and was mentioned 156 times in the bible.

Spikenard was used:

  • as a medicine
  • enhances ones mood
  • anxiety and stress reducer
  • calming
  • sedative
  • antibacterial
  • deodorant
  • anti-fungal
  • anti-inflammatory
  • laxative
  • migraines

These oils were very expensive back then.  The amount of oils brought in the alabaster box by the woman, was about 1 pound.  This was equal to about an average mans yearly wages back then.

The bible said that the apostles, especially Judas, were upset at this waste of money. They thought that the money could have been used to give to the poor, and Jesus said to them:

“Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me. When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. I tell you the truth, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”

We do not know who the woman is, but some believe it to be Mary Magdalene.

It is a great thing to know that we still have these wonderful healing oils for our use, without having to pay a full years wages for them.

The Legend Of The Dogwood

(History Or Mystery?)

The legend of the dogwood tree is a touching story that explains why this tree is so special.

The legend begins in Israel thousands of years ago. At that time, the forests of Israel were full of oak, cedars, walnut trees, and more. Among all these fine trees, one was singled out above the others, the dogwood.

The wood of the dogwood was so valuable that it is said that it was used to make crosses for crucifixions.

Legend states that when Jesus Christ was crucified, he was nailed to a cross made from the wood of a dogwood tree. As he hung on the cross, suffering for the sins of humanity, he looked down at the tree that had been used to kill him.

And then, according to the legend, Jesus spoke these words: “Oh Dogwood tree, most humble of all trees, you shall be forever revered. Because of your role in my crucifixion, you will never again be used as lumber for a cross. From this day forward, your wood will be too soft to support the weight of any man.”

As Jesus spoke, the dogwood tree began to change. Its strong limbs became smaller, twisted, and bent. Its flowers became larger, and the center of each flower became to resemble a cross.

Since that time, the dogwood tree has been a symbol of Christianity. Every spring, when the dogwoods bloom, it is a reminder of Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins and his triumph over death.

If you look closely at a dogwood flower, you can see the marks of the crucifixion. The four large petals represent the cross, and each petal has four red-tinged notches that represent the nail holes. In the center of each flower is a green cluster that represents the crown of thorns that was placed on Jesus’ head.

The legend most likely originated in the United States in the 20th century. Dogwoods are not native to the Middle East and were not grown there in Jesus’ time, but it is still a great story. Therefore, this story is not actual history but a mystery.

Religion is full of symbolism. This is a great way to symbolize the remembrance of the crucifixion of Christ through this beautiful flower. This Legend goes down in folk lore as a story to be remembered.

According to the Eastern Orthodox Church, the actual cross that Jesus was crucified on was made from three different types of wood: cedar, pine, and cypress.

The next time you see a dogwood tree in bloom, remember the legend of the dogwood tree and give thanks for the sacrifice that Jesus made for us.

All Pets Go To Heaven

If we believe that God is good, and He loves His creations, then it would make sense that He would want all of the creatures that he has created – including the animals – to be with Him in heaven. And not just in heaven.

There are scriptures that seem to back this up. In Isaiah 11:6-9, it talks about how the wolf will lie down with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the kid.. and even a calf and a young lion and a fatling together. and a little child shall lead them. This sounds like a description of heaven, where there will be peace between all creatures.

In Revelation 19:11, it states “I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war.  His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself.  He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God.  The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean.”

And in Revelation 5:13, it says “Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” Again, this seems to tell that animals will be present in heaven, praising God along with humans.

While we can’t say for sure that animals will be in heaven, it seems as though they will be. I believe that we can look forward to being reunited with our pets who have passed on.

While we can’t be sure if animals will be in heaven, it seems like a very strong possibility that they will be based on what we see in scripture.

Pope Francis Says There’s a Place for Pets in Paradise. Pope Francis said during a speech in the Vatican that canines, along with “all of God’s creatures,” can make it to heaven.
